Destination: Morocco

The people and cultures of Africa’s northern coast are very different from what you find south of the Sahara. Here, the Muslim religion dominates, Arab and European influences are more strongly felt. The Atlas mountains are snow-covered in winter, and offer spectacular views. Morocco has coastlines on both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

al100087a.jpgResponsibleTravel.com suggests a visit to the Kasbah du Toubkal, the product of an imaginative Berber and European partnership. Only 40 miles from Marrakech, but close to Toubkal National Park, the peace and quiet and seclusion are so complete the city seems a million miles away. You can go there for a day visit, attend a seminar, or stay as long as you like, using it as a base for more active pursuits. Mountain trekking, mule rides, steam baths, and skiiing await.
