Eco-awards for lodges, volunteer projects, wildlife tours

vervet_monkey.jpgSix winners were honored with Ecotourism Awards last week at the annual meeting of Skal International, in Thailand. Skal is an organization of travel and tourism professionals, based in Spain, with 22,000 members. The group supports responsible and sustainable tourism practices. It has been awarding annual Ecotourism Awards since 2002.

Without further ado, this year’s winners:

Voluntourists Without Borders initiative, in Thailand….
Black Sheep Inn, eco-lodge in Ecuador…
Inkaterra, in Peru…
Blue Ventures, marine expeditions, in the U.K….
The Camili Rural Development Project in Turkey…
The Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary, in Ghana.
The group also honored the U.S. chain of Saunders Hotels for their longstanding Initiative to Nurture the Environment.
