The newest U.S. national park

dunes_visitors_top150x150.jpgThe great sand dunes in Colorado seem out of place in the temperate, high-mountain state, but they’re a natural feature, and now they’re a National Park. That puts the area into the most-protected category of natural lands in the U.S., and ensures they will be preserved.

You can check out the new park in this video at Yahoo’s Assignment Earth. And yes, visitors are allowed to play on the dunes. You can slide, ski, or sled on any unvegetated areas of the sand.
