The (scary) downside of mass transit

colbus6.gifWhile Westerners argue about whether a Prius is better than a Hummer, or if their shiny new airliners are energy-efficient enough, plenty of people in the world are riding on rickety old busses as their only option. And while mass transit might seem like a good thing ecologically, sometimes it can cause other problems.

Over at AdventureTravelLogue, Eric Mack has unearthed Bus Plunge!, a creepy yet fascinating site that chronicles all those horrific bus crashes you always read about in the back pages of the news.

The site categorizes the various forms of plunging bus event, from slippery bridges to blown tires to inept drivers to driving rain, and plenty more. Not for the squeamish, but a dose of reality from the far parts of the world.
